Exquisite food. Sincere Service. Relaxing Atmosphere. Ranzan is a new Kaiseki japanese restaurant in Redwood City Downtown. We came here during their soft opening (October 2018). Looking forward to have it as a Michelin restaurant in the near future :-)

Ranzan truly provides a unique Japanese kaiseki experience. First of all, yes it is pricey. And nothing from the interior decor screams ultra expensive. However everything is "proper". Service was with heart and Japanese hospitality as every employee seemed to be from the country. Food was great but I wouldn't necessarily say mindblowing. It certainly is creative and very clinical. Precision blend of various ingredients make a unique palate. But as Japanese cuisine purposefully does not mix the ingredients, they tend to complement rather than enhance or create a new discovery. The slight lack in top notch taste is made up with a beautiful presentation and number of courses. We had the Kibune which was the second most expensive one but by the end, we were both full and a bit exhausted. As we went through at least 10+ exquisite concoctions, it is tough to put a single review that describes all the taste but again, this restaurant is a collection of good hits rather than a singl...

This is my first time to try Kaiseki in Bay Area, and I will highly recommend Ranzan. Food was great, and price was lower than expected. For lunch, maximum is $88! It is located in the downtown Redwood city, parking lot is nearby.
